Rev Sara is a native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She was raised in the Southern Baptist tradition and responded to a call to ministry at the age of 19 while studying at William Carey College. She left the church over theological differences before coming to Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches (UFMCC).
A graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi with a BS in chemistry/biology, Rev Sara moved to Mobile and began a 30-year career in the chemical manufacturing industry. She joined Cornerstone MCC in 2002 and became actively involved in many aspects of lay ministry. Seeking to fulfill her calling, she began the credentialing process in MCC in 2009. She earned an MDiv from Earlham School of Religion, a Quaker seminary, in Richmond, Indiana and was ordained in MCC in 2015. During her seminary studies, Rev Sara served on the UFMCC Gender Non-Conforming Advisory Board and was part of the inaugural LEAD program. She served as a clergy intern at MCC of Baton Rouge for one year under the mentorship of Rev Keith Mozingo where she immersed herself in the life of the congregation. Rev Sara also volunteered at McKemie Place, a shelter for homeless women in Mobile, to satisfy her Clinical Pastoral Education requirement. This evolved into a position on their staff as Chaplain and Operations Director. She and her life partner of 25+ years, Kay, share their home in Mobile with their four dogs Samson, Steve, Moses, and Molly. |
