Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision.
The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives.
It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
Andrew Carnegie
About a billion words have probably been written about the value of teamwork and the value of the individuals within that team. We won't belabor what is already known. It is clear that the welfare of the community rests on the dedication of its members. And just as individuals are unique, each community or organization reflects a unique personality and behavior. That spark of "selfdom" is what this section seeks to identify: what is it that makes each individual cell in the body of the church unique and how is that unique combination reflected in the attitudes, goals and capabilities of the collective body of the church as Mobile's unique iteration of the Worldwide Metropolitan Community Church.
Four-part Harmony : "Getting to know you"
It can be hard to realize our potential and set goals or even make our own life changes if we do not have a clear picture of our current condition: where we are now. The five parts of this weeks exploration will look at the following conversations with yourself so that you can see more about your personal journey and the church can take your information (as openly or privately as you prefer) to see how its members are best served.
Part 1 - Your personality traits inventory - the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
Part 2 - Understanding your relationship to the church and its members - The Five Love Languages Part 3 - Your commitment to your personal Spiritual Journey - where it is and where you want it to be? Part 4 - Your commitment to the journey of CMCC - where are you now and where do you want to be? |
Part 1 - Your personality traits inventory: the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator
The personality type indicators can provide valuable (and remarkably accurate) insight into how we function and interact with others in both individual partnerships as well as group dynamics. These insights are not meant to be behavioral rubber stamps but instead they are meant to act as a guidepost for learning how we can maximize our strengths.
There are many places to learn more about the Myers-Briggs Inventory. We have a PDF assessment that you can print and self-evaluate or you may prefer to go to an online resource for the evaluation and summary result. Several places offer more detailed responses and analysis which you may or may not find valuable. What we would like to have from you in the completion of the PART 1 REPONSE is only the four letter code that represents the amalgam of your characteristics and your overall personality assessment.

Part 2 - Understanding your relationship to the church and its members - The Five Love Languages
What makes you feel loved? How do you best express love?
Consider the graphic representation below and see if you can identify the chief way in which you feel loved and seen and heard. While you may have elements of all, most of us can identify with one more than others. Sharing your love language and identifying those of others will help us (a) serve you as an individual in a more direct and meaningful way and (b) help us understand the general leanings of our conversation.

Part 3 - Your commitment to YOUR spiritual journey
As spiritual beings having a human experience, we could say that there is no escaping the Spiritual Journey. So, for this purpose, let's say specifically that we're talking about your personal journey in relating to your understanding of God and the meaning that journey brings to your life. The answers to the following two questions are meant to be only a simple self-assessment:
3A: On a scale of 1-10 where do you place yourself NOW in how important your spiritual walk is to you? What is your level of commitment?
Consider these as the spectrum:
1= NOT REALLY COMMITTED AND LARGELY DISINTERESTED
5= I CARE AND I GO TO CHURCH BUT THINGS OF GOD DON"T OCCUPY ALL MY THOUGHTS
10 = MY SPIRITUAL WALK IS WHAT I BUILD MY LIFE AROUND AND I TRY TO LIVE FOR GOD IN ALL THAT I DO
3B: If you feel the answer above could use some improvement or change, what number you would like it to be? Again 1-10
3C: If you answered 3B with a new number, can you identify any of the elements that might be standing in the way of your journey?

Part 4 - Your commitment to the Cornerstone / MCC journey
Whether you consider yourself a church bystander or a real mover & shaker, if you are coming to church or viewing online in some capacity, you are a part of the church and your energy affects the whole body. Considering where you been, how would you asses your commitment to the growth or Cornerstone or MCC Worldwide.
4A: Using the same 1-10 scale, ask yourself how committed you are to Cornerstone and its place in your life:
Consider these as the spectrum:
1= I COME TO CHURCH (OR JOIN IN ONLINE) TO GET WHAT I NEED AND CANNOT DO MUCH MORE THAN THAT
5= I CARE AND PARTICIPATE SOME BUT THE CHURCH IS NOT MY LIFE'S HOMEBASE
10 = MY CHURCH IS VERY IMPORTANT AND I SEE MYSELF CONTIRBUTING WHOLEHEARTEDLY TO ITS WELFARE
4B: If you feel the answer above could use some improvement or change, what number you would like it to be? Again 1-10
4C: If you answered 4B with a new number, can you identify any of the elements that might be standing in the way of your journey?

Send us your responses:
The following form will take your work from the four parts above and send Rev Sara and the Visioning Team the information about you and your relationship to the church AS YOU SEE IT so that we can look for ways to address the needs of the church at large and also the individual members. At the same time, we want to see those things that may be a stumbling block to our spiritual efforts and hinder our missional growth.
